Teacher Recommendations

For a few months, I've been overhearing conversations about teacher recommendations. I know they are needed for some scholarships; however, people have been saying that they are needed to apply for colleges/universities. As it is, I'm already stressed out due to the deadline of college applications, so the news that I need teacher recommendations terrifies me. I noticed that the people that inquire about teacher recommendations are often applying to private universities. If I'm applying to UC's and Cal State's, do I need teacher recommendations in order to apply and meet the December 1st deadline? Also, does it depend on your major?

  1. If you're planning to go to any UC or Cal State colleges Javen, then get your applications and final transcripts submitted as soon as possible. Dont wait for the last minitue. Also UCs do not require letters of recommendation at the time of application. A campus might ask for later on in the year. However, for cal states, they just want you to meet some requirements such as sat/act scores and gpas. Additional Elements for application are just Personal essay. so dont worry and good luck!

  2. As you mentioned, letters of recommendation are often a worry for those students applying to a private university. Typically these letters are required regardless of the major you select for these private schools, but it may vary from each university. However, if you are planning to fill out applications only for the UC's and CSU's then you can disregard this stressful aspect of applications for now and simply focus on submitting the information required for these applications as well as answering the 4 prompts for the UC personal statements. No letters of recommendation should be submitted for now, but if necessary the campus will inform you if a letter of recommendation is needed during the application review process.
