I have found myself caught in a pickle. Lately I have been attacked by the same constant question that will be determining my future. What are you majoring in? Time and time again I answer the same troublesome question with, "I want to be a Physical Therapist." However, that's what I just say to avoid the long conversations if I were to reply with "I don't know" but now that I have answered this repetitive question, I am starting to believe in what I tell everyone. Though I am unsure that I actually want to be a Physical Therapist, should I enter college to be one or take the safer route and enter as undeclared just in case I don't actually want to be a Physical Therapist?

I know exactly how you feel. Now that I've also repeatedly answered to people what my major would be, it feel so bland that I no longer have hopes in it. Here's something my family would always respond with," whatever you choose (major wise) you don't have to be a doctor or a layer or a chemist, what you have to be is just you." And this might sound confusing, but what I'm trying to tell you is that you should look in towards your talents, aspirations and achievements' to see what major matches it. For example, I love completions and creativity at the same time, that is why my other option I want to major in business. Another advise I will give you is try new things by looking at different paths you think you can feel compiled to achieve. Yes its okay if you haven't decided your major, at the moment its better to put undeclared than pick a subject you'll later hate. But that's just my opinion, its you who gets to decide whether being a physical therapist is right for you.

ReplyDeleteWell I feel that you should follow your heart. When people ask tell them just don't tell them then let them keep wondering. I would go with the mind set of doing my best in any field i go into. Remember you have one life , live it to the fullest.Dont be afraid to fail or make mistakes , its all part of life .

I'm in the exact same situation as you. For a while now, I've been telling people that I want to major in nursing, but I'm not sure if I want to commit myself to it yet. However, I currently don't have any back-up majors if I don't go with nursing. It's my only option right now, but I can't imagine myself doing it for the rest of my life. A common piece of advice I've heard from my older brother and his friends is to go to community college and complete general education units and hopefully you will realize during that time what you want to pursue as a major. It's a cost-effective approach that doesn't make you rush a decision and choose a major that isn't right for you.
